lost a children's DVD from the church library... overdue fines on top of that. after sunday school, i went to pay the fines. church librarian told me that the amount to be paid is the price of the DVD = $ 10. i told him, "i am going to pay you all that i can today and will come back another day to pay the rest." i don't remember his reply because i was busy unzipping my wallet and preparing to give all that i had. i then asked, "do i pay the overdue fines as well?" he replied, " no,we are not going to make you pay for that on top of paying for the lost DVD" i laid out 2 one dollar bills, 1 five dollar bill, 4 dimes, and 1 quarter on the library counter... i left the one lone penny in the wallet because i was ashamed of giving a penny for some reason. as he prepared to take the money, he said, "i'm going to call this even and paid." took me a couple seconds to figure out that he was clearing my debt... paid in full. still in awe of his mercy towards me. he didn't have to do that but he did. ====================================================================================== i'm telling my kids what happened to me in the church library so they can understand the impact it made on me. Jasmine pipes in about what she learned at church this sunday: "i learned that when you are bad...God still loves you" Me: "Correcto! God still loves you when you are bad" Jasmine: "When you do something really really bad, God doesn't love you anymore" Me: "God still loves you when you do something really bad. When you love God, you don't want to something really really bad. We love God and God loves us."
